Get Settled is a directory published for readers in Canada. This page says what personal information the site actually handles. We do not run accounts, we do not take payment, and we do not sell personal information. The contact address below is a placeholder inbox: hello@getsettled.ca.
What we collect
If you use the newsletter form, the browser sends the email address to this site so we can check that it looks like an email. Today that address is not stored, not added to a list, and not forwarded to an email company. The reply on the form says so. When newsletter delivery is connected, the address will be sent to Resend so Resend can deliver the note you asked for. Resend is a separate company and may process the address outside Canada. Until that connection exists, there is no mailing list to join.
The sponsor form does not store what you type. It opens an email to sponsors@getsettled.ca in your own mail program.
We do not ask for your name, SIN, immigration file number, or banking details to read the directory.
Hosting and cookies
The site is hosted on Vercel. Vercel receives ordinary connection logs, such as the IP address, the page requested, and the time, so the site can be served and protected. We have not installed a separate analytics product, and this site does not set its own advertising or analytics cookies.
If you click a link that is marked as an affiliate link or a sponsored placement, the partner that handles that link may set its own cookie or similar identifier in your browser. That is how a network can tell the visit came from Get Settled. The networks we expect to use, once a publisher account is approved, are Impact, Fintel Connect, Rakuten Advertising, and FlexOffers. Those cookies belong to the network or the advertiser, not to us. In this edition no listing has an affiliate link filled in, and the sponsored slots are empty, so a click on a provider button does not go through one of those networks.
Why, and for how long
The only reason to collect a newsletter address, once Resend is connected, is to send the note you asked for. We would keep it until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Server logs are kept by the host for its own operations and security, on Vercel’s schedule, not as a reader profile we build.
Canadian private-sector privacy law, including PIPEDA, is the standard we are writing to: identify the purpose, collect only what that purpose needs, and give you a way to reach the person who is accountable. This page is our notice. It is not a ruling from the Privacy Commissioner.
Access or deletion
Write to hello@getsettled.ca and say whether you want a copy of what we hold, a correction, or deletion. Because the newsletter is not stored yet, the usual answer today is that we have no mailing-list record for that address. Once Resend is connected, a deletion request means we will remove the address from that list and ask Resend to delete it as well. We will not ask you to pay a fee to read the directory in exchange for answering.
You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you think your information was handled improperly. Their site is priv.gc.ca.
What this policy does not cover
A bank, a phone company, a government office, or an affiliate network has its own privacy policy once you leave this site. Get Settled does not see your application, your account, or your file with them.
