In store, TELUS says it accepts a valid international ID: a passport, or verified proof of landed immigrant status.
TELUS is a Canoo Newcomer Equity Partner with the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, and says that partnership includes offers at Koodo and TELUS.
The $65 figure is the one number TELUS prints at the top of its newcomer page. It is a starting price, not a quote for a specific data bucket. Data amounts, contract length, and any autopay discount were not in the block we could read, so they are omitted. Ask for the current Welcome plan sheet in store and keep a copy.
The same page still mentions an old referral credit that required activation by October 31, 2024. We are not treating that credit as available. If a salesperson offers a referral bill credit, ask them to show a current terms page. TELUS mobility is sold across much of the country, but rural coverage is a separate question from the newcomer price.
Who it is for
TELUS aims the page at people immigrating or coming to study. The ID it names for in-store verification is a passport or proof of landed immigrant status. Students and workers should ask which permit documents the store accepts, because the sentence we saw is narrower than a work permit.
How to act on it
Bring your phone and your ID to a TELUS store and ask for the newcomer Welcome plans. Confirm the $65 plan still exists that day.
Bell's current bring-your-own-phone page lists in-market prices, including a 100 GB plan shown at $60 a month and an unlimited plan with U.S. and Mexico shown at $75. These are not labelled as newcomer discounts.
chatr is the Rogers prepaid brand. On Rogers' own newcomer page it is described as no credit check, no term contract, and no commitment, with nationwide 4G.
Koodo's newcomer page is the flanker brand's version of the TELUS Canoo partnership. It promises deals for newcomers and does not list a plan price on the page we checked.
